Far Cry 3 is an open world first-person shooter that puts players in the shoes of stranded tourist Jason Brody, who is searching for his lost girlfriend. The game takes place on a tropical island that has an ongoing violent conflict. Far Cry 3 will release on Dec. 4 in North America for Microsoft Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Early reviews are in for the game and so far it has received positive reviews.
IGN says, "it's easy to see why someone would want to visit Rook Island - it's a stunning tropical location with plenty of fun activities, scenic views, and history worth discovering. Far Cry 3 disrupts that paradise to challenge your feelings about enjoying violence. Because of lunatics like Hoyt and Vaas, you'll see beautiful things you never would have." The video game website also says that both of the game's online modes feel out of place and unnecessary, but that they are not badly constructed. IGN rates the game a 9-out-of-10.
Game Informer says, "After two remarkable but uneven offerings, Far Cry finally pulls everything together in the third installment. The diverse open-world action, compelling story, and an alluring environment that begs exploration are all high water marks for the series. This is an island adventure all shooter fans should experience." Game Informer also notes that the multiplayer mode has some flaw including questionable hit detection. According to reviewer, the game could find a niche in the overcrowded genre of shooters. Game Informer gives the game a 9-out-of-10.
The Official Xbox Magazine says, the game is "handily the best game in the series so far, and deserves to hold its head high among this winter's noisy crowd of sandbox offerings. If madness is repetition, this is one reworking of a formula I don't mind losing my mind to." The game receives another 9-out-of-10 score, but OXM calls the multiplayer aspect a by the numbers affair and says, its is "Call of Duty conducted at a snail's pace, with one laborious unique objective mode in the shape of Firestorm, plus some unadventurous head-to-head."
On aggregating website Metacritic, the PC version of the game currently has an 89-out-of 100 game score based on 15 reviews. The PlayStation 3 has a 92-out-of-100 score based on 7 reviews and the Xbox 360 version a 91-out-of-100 score based on 11 reviews.
Game Rankings has the Far Cry 3 on PS3 with a score of 92 percent based on five reviews, the Xbox 360 version with a score of 90.63 percent based on eight reviews, and the PC version with a score of 88.17 percent score based on six reviews.
