Ubisoft's ZombiU is a first-person shooter/ survival horror game for Nintendo's Wii U. The game released on Nov. 18 as an exclusive title for the new console. ZombiU is about a zombie outbreak in London that has gamers trying to survive through the deadly streets. The game was built exclusively for the Wii U system and Wii U GamePad. We listed the game as one of the must own titles for the Wii U launch but so far the game has received a mixed reception. Here is what reviewers are saying about ZombiU.
IGN says, "ZombiU has so many great ideas from looting with the Wii U GamePad to permadeath to its spooky setting, but none of them grow into a great game." IGN also notes that the game's control is clunky and that the "melee combat is annoying." But IGN also says, "there's fun to be had here as it's challenging to see how long you can go before succumbing to a biter, but there are so many better zombie games out there that ZombiU really doesn't demand anyone's attention." IGN rates the game a 6.3, which stands for okay on IGN's rating system.
Game Informer says that the game retreads familiar territory and that the environments are dark and blurry. Game Informer says, "You spend most of your time squinting through the darkness with a glorified penlight, a problem exacerbated by a lackluster lighting system that makes everything look blurry. A dirty camera lens effect makes your TV screen appear filthy and frequently obscures your view. The repetitive sewer environments make it too easy to get lost. "Game Informer gives the game a 5-out-of-10 score.
GameSpot says that the game doesn't make much use of the Wii U's GamePad besides a few simple tap to interact segments. GameSpot Says, "ZombiU is a game trapped in the wrong genre. The run-and-gun multiplayer modes emphasize the game's competent shooting mechanics and ability to create interesting enemy encounters. However, these two aspects are discouraged in the single-player campaign for the sake of survival." GameSpot scores the game a 4.5-out-of-10.
Not all reviews for the game aer bad. Eurogamer rates the game a 90 percent and says, the game is an "original twist on the genre that has no console equivalent. It's not quite a revolution, lacking the scope and variety of mechanics to compete with high watermarks like Half-Life 2. But that should take nothing away from Ubisoft's achievement, and the success or otherwise of ZombiU could be defining for Wii U."
On aggregating site Metacritic, ZombiU currently has a score of 72 percent based on 14 reviews. The game currently has rating of a 69.78 percent on aggregating website GameRankings.
