"Thor: the Dark World" or "Thor 2" is set to release in just under a year on Nov. 8, 2013. The film will be directed by Alan Taylor and will return stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo and Idris Elba.
Actors Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Zachary Levi, will also join the cast. Levi replaces Joshua Dallas as Frandral, one of the Warriors Three.
The film's premise centers on Thor battling to protect the Nine Realms from the Dark Elves, who are led by Malekith the Accursed. The super villain is the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim.
The film will also feature Thor's sometime rival Algrim the Strong, who is also known as Kurse. Algrim is coerced by the evil Malekith to fight Thor. He is considered the most powerful of the Dark Elves.
The new film is currently filming in the U.K., and some recent set photos have revealed images of the villainous Malekith, who is played by Eccleston. From the images it appears that the filmmakers are going for a more realistic portrayal of the character. The results are something that resembles a cross between an Orc from Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and Batman villain Two-Face.
Malekith appears in the images donning gold and black armor and sport's the characters trademark two-face design, but loses the purple face from the comics. If the images are any indication of the new film, it appears that the Thor sequel will be more action oriented than its predecessor.
