The critically acclaimed thriller-drama series "Mr. Robot" season 2 has the audience gripping at the edge of reality and fantasy. The biggest plot twist of the first half of the season was finally revealed and the director hinted a bigger revelation ahead.
The Truth About Elliot
"Mr. Robot" season 2 showrunner, creator and director Sam Esmail spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and discussed the truth behind Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) and what it meant moving forward. "Mr. Robot" season 2, episode 6 revealed that Elliot is living out a fantasy world inside a prison.
Contrary to what was shown initially in "Mr. Robot" season 2, Elliot isn't living with his mom. In fact, the mother that viewers saw is actually a prison guard. The revelation that this isn't real was reminiscent of season one's plot twist: Mr. Robot is actually Elliot's figment of imagination of his dead father.
The FBI could own us, but only if we let them.

Resolving Internal Conflict To Set Elliot Free
According to Sam Esmail, finding out the truth is vital for Elliot to move forward. The director said that it would have been dishonest if Elliot didn't reconcile with his internal conflict and just went on about his life. So the first part of "Mr. Robot" season 2 was all about Elliot going through the process of finally accepting his condition.
"And it takes an enormous precedence over everything else in his life, even though he's executed this global criminal act," Sam Esmail spoke with Deadline about Elliot's struggle with his internal conflict in "Mr. Robot" season 2. "His dead father, the gaps in his memories; any version of this story that ignores this, despite whatever cyber mission is going on, felt dishonest to me and the rest of the writers."
Now that Elliot has finally come to grips with reality in "Mr. Robot" season 2, episode 6, the question now is where will Elliot proceed from here? According to Esmail, Elliot has to see the vision of the future that he wants; where he can find peace and sanity. Big revelations await in the nex episodes of "Mr. Robot" season 2.
