There was a collective gasp of appreciation when it was announced that Marvel's beloved "Runaways" will be getting their own Hulu TV show. Fans have been hoping that the comic book supergroup will finally get a live action adaptation for quite some time.
However, some people are beginning to wonder why the Runaways won't appear in the same service as "Jessica Jones" and "Daredevil". Is there trouble between Marvel and Netflix? Will the "Runaways" TV series have a different tone compared to the other Marvel shows?
Marvel Announces 'Runaways' TV Show On Hulu, But Why Not Netflix?
Deadline broke the good news about the "Runaways" TV show, which will be written and produced by Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz. That's right, the same people who brought "Gossip Girl" to TV will be working on the Hulu series. Expect plenty of snarky humor from Marvel's teenage supergroup.
Fans were overjoyed with the upcoming "Runaways" TV show. However, some began to speculate that there is a bigger reason why Marvel chose Hulu instead of Netflix. There are rumors that Netflix isn't ready for another Marvel show due to budget constraints. After all, the service already has its hands full with "Luke Cage", "Iron Fist", "The Defenders" and "Punisher".
However, some fans believe that Marvel is looking to reach a different audience with the "Runaways" TV show. There are speculations that the Hulu series will have a very different tone compared to the Marvel shows on Netflix. However, that hasn't stopped people from hoping that the teenage superteam will crossover with one of the Netflix shows in the future.
There is no word yet on when the "Runaways" TV show will begin production. Hopefully, the series will air as early as 2017.
