Sega is reaching into the past once again, this time making one of their first Genesis titles and its sequel available for download on both PlayStation 3 and XBox 360. Both ToeJam & Earl and ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron can be dowloaded today, Nov. 6 on the PlayStation Network and XBox Live Arcade.
According to a press release, "Players will be able to download these classics separately on PlayStation Network for US $4.99/£3.59/€4.49/AUD $6.25 and bundled together on Xbox LIVE® Arcade as Sega Vintage Collection: ToeJam & Earl for 800 Microsoft Points." Sorry Sony fans, no bundle to be had.
In the first of the series, ToeJam & Earl, players must help the funky alien duo find the missing pieces of their ship after crash landing on the craziest planet in the galaxy: Earth! Explore changing landscapes and collect an assortment of helpful (and harmful!) items while avoiding the planet's more unique denizens.
Panic on Funkotron takes the alien back to their home planet as a side scrolling platformer. The only problem? Some Earthlings hitched a ride back with them, and are now wreaking havoc on Toejam and Earl's fellow Funkotronians (I think that's correct). It's up to the duo to traverse across the planet to capture the human nuisances, and send them back home.
Both titles have been updated with support for achievements and trophies, as well as full online co-op support. No HD revamp for the titles, but it's a nice bit of nostalgia for any Genesis fanboys out there.
