Saying "GG EZ," a very internet way of saying "good game, easy" after winning a match in "Overwatch" is one way to piss off the enemy team. This short and salty phrase has been the mark of bad-mannered players in this game and many others for a long time. Now, Blizzard has silently slipped some poison into the drink, surreptitiously adding a chat filter to the game that is triggered by the phrase.
In the latest update to their Public Test Region, in which new "Overwatch" features are tested by opt-in players before being released to the full live game, players discovered that saying "gg ez" in chat wouldn't show the phrase, instead cycling randomly across a bunch of vastly more polite responses, ranging from encouraging and supportive, to brutally insecure. Some of the responses include "Ah shucks... you guys are the best!" "It was an honor to play with you all. Thank you." and "Good game! Best of luck to you all!" As well as our personal favorite: "I'm wrestling with some insecurity issues in my life but thank you all for playing with me."
Blizzard definitely has a great sense of humor, and these additions to the "Overwatch" feature set, which didn't even make it to any official documentation or patch notes, showcase it alongside their desire for a healthy gameplay environment. One wonders though if it's backfired to some degree - players are reportedly enjoying the phrases so much that in-game chat in PTR matches is often filled with everyone typing "GG EZ" just to cycle through the premade responses.
Aside from this new salt filter, the new PTR update also includes more minor changes, such as Season 2 of Competitive Play and a variety of hero balances, including nerfs to Genji and Lucio, and a buff to Mercy. Stay tuned to GamenGuide for the latest news and updates about the "Overwatch" game!
