NVIDIA News: Here's The New GeForce GTX 10 Series For Desktop and Mobile

NVIDIA has just raised the bar for graphics processing technology once again with the release of the new GeForce GTX 10 series GPUs (graphics processing units). The new GeForce series is loaded with new Pascal architecture, which makes their cards perform better than ever before, packing a lot of processing punch for both desktop and mobile.

The biggest deal with the GeForce GTX 10 series, CNet reports, is that the Pascal technology (already being used by a number of laptop manufacturers, including MSI, Alienware, Asus, and Lenovo, among others) erases the line that differentiates video cards for both desktop and mobile. For the first time, the GPUs for both platforms are similar in performance due to the sheer power the GeForce GTX 10 possesses, allowing laptop gamers to run games just as beautifully as their desktop counterparts. That means mobile GPU models will no longer be named with an M, for one, as the entire line will be servicing both.

The GeForce GTX 10 for mobile fits in the slimmer laptop designs, giving them full 4K and virtual reality capability where it was only possible for the desktop, great for those who've been wanting to take the high-definition plunge but still want it in a package that's portable. Now mobile gamers don't have to split hairs.

The full specs of the GeForce GTX 10 include 2,560 Cuda Cores, 160 Texture Units, a 1,607 MHz core clock, a 1,733 MHz boost clock, 256 memory bus width, a memory speed of 10 GHz, 320 GB/s memory bandwidth, 8 GB of video RAM, and 180W TDP. That isn't much improvement from older models—there's marginal improvements from previous desktop models—but it's worth noting again that this GPU is for both mobile and desktop units.

If you're absolutely serious about gaming, then the GeForce GTX 10 is a huge coup whether you're playing on a PC or on a laptop. Wonder what we'll see from manufacturers next?
