Jared Leto already has the next big-budget franchise lined up for him. The 44-year old musical artist and actor, who's fresh from his role in the highly publicized and highly criticized "Suicide Squad," has joined "Blade Runner 2" in a yet-undisclosed role.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Leto is the newest addition to Alcon Entertainment's 2017 sequel to the 1982 film based on Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" The new film will bring back Harrison Ford and director Ridley Scott to the franchise, along with newbies Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Ana de Armas. Alongside Scott are executive producers Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, while Cynthia Sikes Yorkin, Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove and Bud Yorkin will produce.
Leto has proven himself to be a viable film lead, as he was honored with a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and an Academy Award for his portrayal of a transgender woman in 2013's "Dallas Buyers Club." The actor is reportedly selective about the roles he portrays, which is why it would be interesting to see what character he will play in the highly anticipated "Blade Runner 2."
Everyone surrounding "Blade Runner 2" seems to remain tight-lipped about the upcoming film, including Gosling. In an interview with Telegraph back in June, he only confirmed that Harrison will be in the film, which he confirmed to be a sequel to the 1982 movie. Same goes for an interview with SiriusXM Entertainment Weekly Radio, in which the actor reiterated on the very short leash he has on the studio, who maintains he keep quiet about the film. Filming is set to begin this summer, but there are no further details beyond that.
Gosling was delighted that he got cast in the film, though, as he admitted to being a huge fan of the original film. "Blade Runner 2" is set to arrive on October 6, 2017.
