Dez Byrant's 46-yard touchdown reception late in the fourth quarter lifted the Dallas Cowboys to a 38-31 win over the previously unbeaten Atlanta Falcons on NBC's "Sunday Night Football."
The Cowboys started the game well with a few big runs by Felix Jones including runs of 12-yards and 18-yards, but Dallas only managed a field goal to give them a 3-0 lead.
On the Falcons' first drive they gave the ball right back to Dallas when Matt Ryan was sacked by DeMarcus Ware to set Dallas up at the Falcons 23. It was Ware's second sack of the drive. The Pro Bowl linebacker has 9.5 quarterback sacks so far this season.
A few plays later, Tony Romo tossed a 10-yard touchdown to Miles Austin in the corner of the End zone to give Dallas a 10-0 leading in the first quarter. Romo finished 34 of 48 for 357 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.
Dallas' run game would stall after their first couple of possessions and Jones finished the game with only 54-yards and one touchdown. The Falcons' defense sacked Romo three times.
Atlanta scored on their next three possessions to take a 21-10 with only a few moments remaining in the second quarter. But Dallas was able to score a touchdown to make it 21-17 at halftime.
The Falcons scored a touchdown on the opening possession of the second half, as Matt Ryan hit his tight end Tony Gonzalez for a 13-yard touchdown giving Atlanta a 28-17 lead.
The teams then exchanged scores, a touchdown run by Dallas and a 46-yard field goal for the Falcons making the game 31-24 going into the final 15 minutes of the game.
The Cowboys overcame the deficit in the fourth quarter with a surge in the passing game. Romo lead the Cowboys on two timing consuming touchdown drives. He was 11-for-11 on the two drives and picked up 148 yards through the air to give Dallas the win and the Falcons their first loss of the 2012 season.
