Star Wars 1313 the upcoming third-person action-adventure video game developed and published by Lucas Arts, will not be affected by the recent $4 billion Disney acquisition of Lucas Film, according the developer via an IGN report.
"For the time being all projects are business as usual," Lucas Arts wrote to IGN. "We are excited about all the possibilities that Disney brings."
The game takes the Star Wars license in much more mature direction than previous projects. Gamers will take on the role of a bounty hunter, who is navigating the planet Coruscant's subterranean level. The 1313 underworld is said to be ripe with a criminal conspiracy and it is up to the player to uncover the truth.
The game will also emphasizes fast-paced, gadget and weapon based combat using tools exclusive to bounty hunters rather than the usually Star Wars stories that focus on Force users and lightsaber combat.
According to the IGN report, Lucas Arts is directing people to the original Disney press release for additional information on the matter. In the press release Disney says, that it "will also acquire the substantial portfolio of cutting-edge entertainment technologies that have kept audiences enthralled for many years. Lucasfilm, headquartered in San Francisco, operates under the names Lucasfilm Ltd., LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, and the present intent is for Lucasfilm employees to remain in their current locations."
As of now it appears that LucasArts, Star Wars 1313 is still on schedule for its release 2013 release on unnamed platforms. It does appear that Disney has a lot planned for the Star Wars franchise, including new movie slated for release in 2015.
"Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas," said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. "This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney's unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value."
