Jack Ryan has come a long way from the page to the big screen. Tom Clancy fans would remember that the character, who has appeared in several of his novels, made the first move to the big screen way back in 1990, when Alec Baldwin played the CIA intelligence analyst in "The Hunt for Red October." He passed on the torch to Harrison Ford who stepped into Jack Ryan's shoes for two films, one in 1992 ("Patriot Games") and one in 1994 ("Clear and Present Danger"). It was then followed by "Batman v Superman" star Ben Affleck, who portrayed the character in 2002's "The Sum of All Fears." Most recently, Jack Ryan was portrayed by Chris Pine in "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" two years ago.
Back in April, Deadline reported that "The Office" star John Krasinski is heading back to the small screen to have a hand at "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan." At the time, there wasn't a series order yet, but fans can now rejoice as TV Line reports that the show has received a series order from Amazon, who will stream the show hopefully in the coming fall/winter TV season.
The announcement came via Roy Price, Head of Amazon Studios, who released a statement saying that the company is excited to add "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" to their list of original series. Price called the production a "a compelling adaptation of the action-packed spy thriller book series," one that is expected of "Lost" veterans and show creators Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland. Both Cuse and Roland are set to executive produce the series alongside Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Lindsey Springer, Andrew Form, and Mace Neufeld.
Speaking of Michael Bay, the series will once again team up the filmmaker and Krasinski, who recently worked together for the action-packed "13 Hours:The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi." Krasinski is also fresh off his stint as writer and director of the comedy-drama, "The Hollars."
There's no word yet on when "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" will debut on Amazon, but check back for more updates soon.
