Sleeping Dogs' Developer United Front Has Six Months Of DLC Planned For The Game

In an Official PlayStation Magazine UK interview with producer Dan Sochan about Sleeping Dogs' upcoming Nightmare at North Point DLC, Sochan told the magazine that United Front has plans to release six months of DLC for the open world action-adventure game. VG247 first reported the story.

"A few months before we shipped Square told us they wanted to do DLC so we made sure we could technically do add ons," Sochan told OPM. "But we really spent every waking hour and then some making sure the game was as polished and as bug free as it could be."

Sochan also told the magazine that with new intellectual properties it is common to not have an initial plan for DLC, but with Sleeping Dogs, the game's publisher Square Enix believed in the game early on.

"Every contract is slightly different. More often than not with a new IP you want to assess the interest in the market, the consumers. How are people feeling a few months before launch? And you hedge your bets." Sochan said. "Square, from the very beginning, were showing that they believed in us and believed in this game as a potential franchise."

The first major Sleeping Dogs DLC pack is Nightmare in North Point, which will be available on Tuesday Oct. 30 for download on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. According to the interview, United Front just had fun with the expansion and based the content on the Halloween timetable.

"We were all really tired and a little burned out after the full game, but working on something that was a complete departure from what we had done in the past was invigorating." Sochan said. "The actual inspiration behind the horror element was simply a matter of timing. When looking at our timeline we said 'Well, our first gameplay pack would be coming out around Halloween.' We thought the idea of these Jiang Shi, hopping vampires, is something very unique and different."

Sleeping Dogs released on Aug. 14, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The game takes place in Hong Kong and focuses on an undercover detective's infiltration of the Triads' criminal organization.
