Assassin's Creed 3 Release Date In 1 Day: Creative Director Compares Assassin's Creed To TV Series

From its cinematic trailers to its actual gameplay there is no doubt that Assassin's Creed III is a blockbuster video game title, but the game's creative director Alex Hutchinson says the game is more like a television series or novel.

In an interview with Forbes, Hutchinson says that the games are long form stories like television and novels, while movies are more like short stories.

"We have a previous game that we need to take into account, we're much more frequent, and we're much more community driven," Hutchinson told Forbes. "Movies always felt like short stories, whereas the modern TV season is like a novel. That level of scale fits better for games than movies."

He also says that he sees games moving more towards episodic content and he wouldn't rule out that change for Assassin's Creed's future.

"People are always pitching different ways of packaging it, I wouldn't rule anything out, " Hutchinson told Forbes. "But the only thing I would say is that we would have to do our best to maintain the sense of the epic. The game is like a box set. We try to push a big story forward and hopefully keep it going, try to find new audiences."

In many ways downloadable content and season passes are already showing that games are in the early stages of the television like experience that Hutchinson is talking about. Ubisoft has already taken steps to create lots of extra content for Assassin's Creed III.

Back in July it was reveled that Ubisoft created a complementary development team that is dedicated to creating new DLC for Assassin's Creed III, according to a report by video game site Kotaku.

"We are currently in the process of creating a complementary development team that will begin working on post-launch episodic content to continue the Game of the Year experience that Assassin's Creed 3 will undoubtedly deliver," read a message from Ubisoft to US retailer Gamestop that was posted online by Kotaku.

Assassin's Creed III is the first games in the series to feature a season pass that will give gamers full access to all additional DLC upon release, including additional single-player missions and additional multiplayer packages.
