Hitman: Absolution, a new stealth game developed by IO Interactive and published by Square Enix, has a new cinematic trailer that provides gamers with a better indication of Agent 47's undertakings.
The trailer asks the question: "How many lives will you take to save one?" It appears the game is trying to Agent 47's assignations some moral weight. The trailer is a far cry from the game's first cinematic teaser trailer titled "Attack of the Saints" where there are gun-toting, PVC and latex-clad nuns.
The "Attack of the Saints" sparked quite a bit of controversy and was considered to be sexist portrayal of women. In an E3 interview with IGN, IO Interactive's Tore Blystad, the game's director, apologized and said "sorry that we offended people" and that it "was truly not the intention of the trailer."
Hitman: Absolution is said to be a more personal story, according to a Digital Spy interview with IO Interactive's Hakan Abrak.
"I think one big difference is the story. You've been used to these traditional hits, Diana giving you a hit as the pacing of the story. It's very different in this one because Hitman has to work alone. He's been betrayed and he's being hunted, Abrak told Digital Spy. "It's a far more personal story. This time around, Agent 47 makes the next moves and pushes the story. You come a lot closer to Hitman and learn more about him than ever before."
The game will use a new mechanic called "Instinct Mode" and will evolve previous game mechanics from past games in the series.
"The other big difference is the technology," Abrak told Digital Spy. "We've added new features and really upped the AI - because that's a core part of Hitman - to give those different, funny and weird stories within the story. We have used very evolved editions of existing mechanics, such as disguise and impersonation, and, as I said before, the AI. Also, there's 'Instinct' mode. The players use 'Instinct' to react to situations. For example, if you are disguised as a doctor you'll write in your notepad to remain undetected."
Hitman: Absolution will release on Nov. 20 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC. In a Gamespot AU interview with IO interactive art director Roberto Marchesi it was revealed that the company currently has no plans for a Wii U version of the game. He simply said, "We don't have plans for a Wii U version."
