Assassin's Creed III will include micro-transaction in the form of Erudito Packs that are already available on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, according to a report by Forbes.
Here is a break down of how much the Erudito Packs cost:
20 Erudito Pack = 80 Microsoft Points or $1.00
50 Erudito Pack = 160 Microsoft Points or $2.00
155 Erudito Pack = 400 Microsoft Points or $5.00
380 Erudito Pack = 800 Microsoft Points or $10.00
925 Erudito Pack = 1600 Microsoft Points or $20.00
There has been no statement issued on what the packs will be used for in the game. Forbes reached out to Ubisoft for a comment regarding the Erudito Packs, but received no comment.
According to the Assassin's Creed Wiki, "Erudito, also dubbed the Erudito Collective, was either an individual or a collective of several people who possessed one goal - to directly oppose Abstergo Industries, and make various secretive truths about the corporation known."
Forbes points to an article by VentureBeat where Ubisoft's chief financial officer Alain Martinez claimed that the free-to-play model will influence Ubisoft's future games.
"There will be free-to-play on consoles," Martinez said during an investor conference. "But in the future, with games like Watch Dogs, we could see more opportunity for $60 games to learn from the free-to-play model. The next generation will offer more and more item-based content. This will benefit our games' profitability."
Forbes contributor Erik Kain speculates that these Erudito Packs will be used for the multiplayer mode of the game. Kain says "My best guess here is that these are packs for multiplayer only. I know a lot of people are worrying they'll be for the single-player game, but I'd just hasten toward caution there. I think the multiplayer scenario makes more sense for Ubisoft and would be much less worrisome for players."
It makes sense that these packs will be for the multiplayer mode with Ubisoft's move to improve and expand that aspect of Assassin's Creed III.
Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed III releases on Oct. 30 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC release will follow on Nov. 20, while a Wii U version will be available at the consoles launch on Nov. 18.
