'Supergirl' Season 2 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Kevin Smith Reveals Episode Title, Possible Villain? [PLOT DETAILS]

Kevin Smith is officially directing an episode of "Supergirl" Season 2. This shouldn't be much of a surprise, since the "Mallrats" director worked on "The Flash" Season 2. But what can fans expect when the "Yoga Hosers" filmmaker takes on an episode of Kara Zor-El's story? A possible homage to the ill-fated Nicolas Cage film "Superman Lives"!

DC fans already know what Kevin Smith is capable of when directing for "The Flash" Season 2. The filmmaker worked on "The Runaway Dinosaur", which turned out to be one of the show's most memorable episodes. Will Smith be able to replicate the success in "Supergirl" Season 2?

Kevin Smith Announces His "Supergirl" Season 2 Episode! Is It A Tribute To "Superman Lives"?

So yes, Kevin Smith will direct a very special episode of "Supergirl" Season 2? What's so special about it? Smith shared a few interesting details about the episode during his most recent "Fat Man on Batman" podcast.

"Andrew Kreisberg told me that the name of the episode is 'Supergirl Lives,'" Smith revealed. The filmmaker admitted that the news made him very emotional for a good reason. "The name of the script I wrote back in 1996 was called 'Superman Lives'," he shared during the podcast.

"Superman Lives" is undoubtedly one of the most interesting DC films ever conceived (and unceremoniously aborted). The project was initially going to be helmed by Jon Peters, who called on the young Kevin Smith to write the script. The movie was later handed over to Tim Burton, who cast Nicolas Cage as Kal-El.

Kevin Smith's confirmation about his "Supergirl" Season 2 episode immediately led to speculations that "Supergirl Lives" will feature a strange villain. Will Kara Zor-El have to battle the "Thanagarian Snare Beast"?

OK, so that particular creature is not part of DC lore but it would still be an interesting addition to Kevin Smith's "Supergirl" Season 2 episode. The new series will debut on The CW on October 10.
