For years, Hello Games' "No Man's Sky" has created buzz around the procedurally generated game that lets gamers explore a universe with 18 quintillion planets. Now that the highly anticipated game has arrived, however, it seems that it may have fallen short of its promise, thanks to some issues gamers have experienced on PC. Its Steam page currently shows that the game has more than 20,600 reviews since it was released this week, but the results show mixed reviews, with 55% being positive.
Several of the reviews have reported crashes, with one calling it an "overhyped indie game." Meanwhile, Gamespot reports that creator Sean Murray has taken to Twitter to inform gamers that there is a "frankly insane amount" of players who tried to run the game for the first time within 15 minutes of its release. He also wrote that one of the most troubling issues encountered was the lack of Visual C++ Redistributable 2010. Nonetheless, the team has released a patch for it, and users are encouraged to download and restart the game once they have it.
Murray also wrote that for those who want to play "No Man's Sky," make sure that you have an updated graphics drivers from AMD or nVidia. He reminded gamers that the minimum requirement for the game is OpenGL 4.5.
According to IGN, Hello Games is currently working on the critical issues of the game on console and has hired an external QA to group to assist them in the process. Other issues experienced by some players incloude sound issues and the game forcing the computer to restart.
Despite the mixed reviews of "No Man's Sky," it seems that the game has piqued the interest of many. Polygon rated it 6 out of 10 for PlayStation, citing that the game is "an impressive set of tools grafted onto a game," even calling them "amazing and unprecedented," but writes that the game has "very little going on."
