It may have taken nine years, but it seems like it's worth the wait and just in time.
While the world is in a frenzy playing "Pokemon GO," fans who can't play or do not yet have access to the game can play "Pokemon Uranium," the fan-made game whose first inception was nine years ago. The game can be downloaded at pokemonuranium.com, but fans are warned to download soon, as the site has reached its download limit. There's also a mirror link for downloading the game.
The fan-made "Pokemon Uranium" is currently available for PC only, Express reports. However, a version for Mac is already in the works. Fans are encouraged to get a copy as soon as possible because despite being a non-profit game, it may be ordered to be taken down soon by Niantic. The company has long been known to take down such projects for copyright infringement.
"Pokemon Uranium" is a fan-made game created using RPGmaker XP, and resembles the graphics of the "Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green" from 2009, CNet reports. Players will find themselves in the Tandor region, where they must collect 8 Gym Badges to join the competition at the Tandor Reginal Championship. The Tandor region is divided into two areas, one mountainous, and another oceanic. Players are also tasked to stock their Pokedex with over 150 different types of Pokemon.
Fans who love "Pokemon Go" would be excited to explore "Pokemon Uranium," which Paste Magazine reports to have three possible protagonists: Victor, Natalie, and Pluto. In an effort to keep up with the times, Pluto is actually gender-neutral, which is a nice touch to add to a game with a wide audience.
The game will find the player 10 years following a nuclear power plant accident that killed their mother. Now, the player must venture on a new power plant built atop the old one, where Pokemon are being affected by radiation. Players can also trade online and battle each other.
