Commander Shepard is one of the best characters in video game history. Why? Because gamers got to craft their very own version of the hero and make choices that changed the game's universe.
According to a recent interview Bioware had with VG247, The next entry in the series will feature a new hero with different mannerisms than Commander Shepard. Bioware Montreal Produce Fabrice Condominas confirmed that the new series would be a completely new experience in the Mass Effect Universe.
"There is one thing we are absolutely sure of - there will be no more Shepard, and the trilogy is over," Condomina told VG247. "This is really our starting point. Now the Mass Effect universe is vast, and very, very rich. So at this point in time, we don't even know what kind of time frame we're going to be in. All we're doing is more gathering ideas from the teams, gathering feedback to see several things."
He also told the website that Bioware isn't content in just creating a Shepard clone, and that nothing else about the new game has been decided as of right now.
"So first, we don't want to make Shepard 2, or Mass Effect 4 with like, 'oh there's no more Shepard but you're a soldier in the universe,'" Condominas said in the interview. "So this will be a very, very different context for sure, and nothing has been decided on the rest."
Bioware is still expanding on Shepard's final game, Mass Effect 3, and has the new Omega expansion that will release on Nov. 27. The new expansion will see gamers help Aria T'loak battle to take back the space station Omega from the Illusive Man's Cerberus operatives.
