There are swirling rumors that "Scandal" Season 6 will be the final installment of the show. However, at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, ABC President Channing Dungey denied the claims and teased about the drama series' first episode, instead.
Episode 1 Teaser
Channing Dungey revealed that he has read "Scandal" Season 6 Episode 1 and hinted that it is quite alike to the show's previous seasons. "We have read the script for the new season and it's fantastic. It feels very much like a return to form," he said. The 47-year-old television executive also explained that they are now running for five years and every show, naturally, experience "little bit of ebb and flow," according to Yibada.
Olivia Pope's Fate
The executive producer Shonda Rhimes, on the other hand, told Lara Spencer in her interview with "Good Morning America" that Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) might end up with either President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) or Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) in the finale of "Scandal" Season 6. However, the 46-year-old writer cleared that Olivia Pope's fate is not yet confirmed and only mere ideas.
In fact, Shonda Rhimes believes that the role of Kerry Washington never needs a man. "She never had to actually be a wife. She never actually had to be truly emotionally available. She never actually had to do any of the icky stuff that you have to do when you're in a relationship," she explained.
'Scandal' Canceled After Season 6?
Meanwhile, there are swirling rumors that "Scandal" will be canceled after Season 6. Channing Dungey went on to explain that they haven't, actually, talked about the future of the television series after its latest installment. But, with his last statement that the show is 'back to form,' many believes that "Scandal" will be renewed for Season 7, according to Movie News Guide. "Scandal" Season 6 is set to return on ABC in 2017.
