“The Croods 2” was previously scheduled for release in December 2017 but it looks like 20th Century Fox has changed all that as it tries to juggle with the film lineup on their end.
According to Variety, “The Croods 2” has been moved somewhere in 2018 as it makes way for another animated film, “The Story of Ferdinand”. It should be noted that the 1936 children’s classic was moved as well since it was originally set for launch on June 21, 2017.
Three animated films for 2017
With the bump in film release schedule, three Dreamworks Animation films are slated next year. One of them will be “Boss Baby” (Mar. 31), Captain Underpants (Jun. 2) and “Trolls” (Nov. 4).
According to Screen Rant, returning to direct “Croods 2” will be Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders. Celebrities returning to lend their voice to the sequel reportedly include Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, and Nicholas Cage.
The new voice talents coming in include Kat Dennings and Leslie Mann though details on what to expect from the movie remain scarce. The only thing certain right now is that the old and new cast will pick off from the Pliocene era with no clue on what lies ahead for the prehistoric group.
Since its showing back in 2013, the only thing close to the “Croods” was that TV show spinoff, “Dawn of the Croods”. It premiered back in December 2015 and is the closest that fans can get for now on the prehistoric hit flick.
Change in management
With Fox no longer in charge of distributing the films, the changes resulting from the acquisition of Dreamworks Animation by NBCUniversal back in April. The Comcast-owned company acquired the rights following a $3.8 billion deal, something expected to be closed by the end of 2016. Jeffrey Katzenberg will no longer be the CEO, stepping aside as he takes on other ventures.
