"Pokemon Go" was only released last July 6, 2016 so it is expected that many players are still trying to understand how the mobile game works and what the different terms and values mean. "Pokemon Go" individual values (IVs) are still a mystery to some, so a Reddit user decided to create a meme that helps explains the concept properly in a very simple way.
Reddit user maphrox presented a meme on Imgur, in comic-style, divided into 13 sections. There were three characters in the meme, namely Professor Oak, Timmy, a "Pokemon Go" trainer, and the PokemonRattata. The professor patiently explained to Timmy what IVs are, which provided information about the important but hidden stat in the game. Professor Oak started by telling Timmy that his Rattata may seem strong, but without knowledge on "Pokemon Go" IVs, his creature can easily become worthless.
The Bitbag stated that "Pokemon Go" IVs refer to a Pokemon's Stamina, Attack and Defense, which are the components that constitute its CP. Stamina, Attack and Defense are also measured anywhere between 1 and 15. The formula is CP = ATK (0.5) X STA X DEF (0.5)/10. There are third-party calculator apps for "Pokemon Go" that will help players get their CP easily. "Pokemon Go" IVs are significant because these determine a Pokemon's overall function. IVs are determine when a Pokemon is caught and will not change after evolution.
Generally, a Pokemon with high CP is a powerful one, but having high IV in "Pokemon Go" does not immediately mean that a creature is good on all fronts. The creature may be great in offense but poor in defense. IV calculators in "Pokemon Go" will then be useful in helping players determine which Pokemon they should use Candies and Stardusts on. Furthermore, trainers do not necessarily have to check the IV score every time, but knowing the details will be the ideal approach in building the best team in "Pokemon Go."
The meme concluded that even if all of Rattata's IVs are 15, it is still a terrible Pokemon overall. Professor Oak advised Timmy to look for more powerful "Pokemon Go" characters.
