Though I loved both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, computer hacking was never my forte, and I've ended up having to back out of the program many times before finally getting lucky enough at picking out the correct password randomly.
But for any of you who did enjoy that mini-game more than yours truly, you can now get all the happy Robco styled hacking action your little heart desires with this little flash game designed by Mitchell Thompson (or at least, he hosts the web site where you can find the game).
Just like in the Fallout series, if you don't pick the correct password in four tries, you're locked out of the terminal with the same old "contact an administrator" mesage. But unlike Fallout thankfully, not forever. Just power the terminal off and back on, and you're good for another game. Winning this flash game won't reward you with a gatling laser, or even a couple of bobby pins. No, you get haiku, ramblings of math gurus and famed cryptographers.
if it's been a while since you've tried your hand at Fallout's logic hacking puzzles, check the guide below, courtesy of gamespy:
"On the computer terminal screen there is a list of passwords to choose from within other computer characters. You guess which word it might be and and after a choice is made, feedback will be given on how many letters are shared between the picked option and the correct answer. Keep in mind, that if you fail, the correct password might show wrong letters, and eventually the terminal gets locked and the only way to unlock it is to have a correct ,password so start looking. Overall the game can be compared with the popular board game, Mastermind.
- If you click on any brackets facing each other in the same line, such as (), {} or <>, you have a chance of either regaining all failed tries, or removing a dud password. You can also click brackets containing a few special characters, </+> and {,} for example.
- Here is an idea, if your on a hard or very hard terminal then when you use 3 of 4 tries, just back out of the terminal and try again. This will reset the password to a different word, but it will prevent being locked out.
Note, the higher your science skill, the less wrong word choices appear."
Just remember, your science skill won't help you here.
