"Thor: The Dark World" is the sequel to 2011's Thor and the eighth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Alan Taylor is taking over the director's chair from Kenneth Branagh and the film will releases on Nov. 8, 2013.
Marvel and parent company Disney have released the official plot synopsis for the film. Here it is:
"Marvel's Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel's Thor and Marvel's The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all."
Christopher Yost, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote the film's screenplay. Thor 2 returns stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Idris Elba and Rene Russo. Joining them will be Christoper Eccleston as the villain Malekith the Accursed, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Algrim the Strong, and Zachary Levi, who replaces Joshua Dallas as Fandral.
From recent reports we know that a main character will die in the Thor film universe. We have speculated that the villain Hela could play a part in the film. Hela is the Asgardian goddess of death, and we think that Jane Foster could die in the film with Thor having to the realms of Hel and Nifflehelm to save her.
Malekith the Accursed is the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim and in the comics he convinces the strongest of his people Algrim to battle Thor. Algrim is also known as Kurse .
