Deep Silver is considering doing a Collector's Edition for their upcoming Dead Island sequel, Dead Island: Riptide. But where to start, what to include? The Deep Silver staff has taken it upon themselves to ask the zombie bashing community, namely, their fans.
They've come up with a survey for fans to answer, featuring a whole range of options. Everything from an inflatable beach ball, Zombie hula girl car ornament bobble head, character figurines, and an inflatable axe (sounds highly ineffective), to wall clings, and even a Dead Island branded pillowcase.
Disappointingly, the survey doesn't include an option to write in your own suggestions, but while I'm on the proverbial soap box, I've seen a lot of great zombie stuff out there for Deep Silver to take inspiration from (though this has always been one of my favorites).
Take part in the survey here.
Taking place right immediately after the ending of Dead Island, all the survivors ride a helicopter to what they think is safety. Riptide begins with them getting caught in some choppy weather, forcing the helicopter to land, and the survivors eventually make their way onto the island of Palanai. But like Banoi, Palanai is overrun with hungry zombies.
As the title indicates, most of the environment is heavily flooded. Joining the undead as a new threat will be the weather of the environment itself. Torrential rain can limit player vision, and many areas can only be navigated by boat. The weather will also lead to environmental changes as well, so while one area was once nice and dry, a torrential downpour could flood the area completely later on. Riptide also promises new mutated zombie types will be introduced, and I wouldn't be surprised if some new weapons and modifications were included as well. Also, for those who played the first Dead Island, you'll be able to keep your original character and use it again in Riptide.
Pre-orders are also available for Riptide as well. Those who pre-order from GameStop, Amazon, and Best Buy receive a shiny steelbook game case, with additional incentives to be announced later.
Dead Island: Riptide is planned to release in 2013 for Windows PC, PS3, and XBox 360. You can check out the gut punching trailer here.
