FIFA 13 is a critical and commercial success on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game has garnered high scores including a 9/10 from game site IGN and we gave the soccer game a 9.5 -out-of 10. You can read the review for that version here. But the game has received less than spectacular reviews for the Wii and PlayStation Vita versions of the game.
The Nintendo Wii version received a sneering review from the Official Nintendo Magazine, who called the game a "shamefully cynical 'update' that brings absolutely nothing new to the table." The online magazine gave the game a 30 percent rating.
IGN recently reviewed the PlayStation Vita version of the game said, "all feels stale and deeply underwhelming. There's no unpredictable first touch. The dribbling system remains unchanged. No improved attacking intelligence. Things haven't moved on, and those innovations, which make FIFA 13 on consoles a refreshed, exciting experience, are glaringly absent. FIFA on the Vita has been left behind."
IGN gave the game a score of 4/10 and closed with this statement:
"Sports games have moved on. New kits and boots aren't enough to justify a full-price release. Despite adopting the same name, FIFA 13 on Vita is not at all consistent with the console version nor does it function as a satisfying companion game. Ultimately, it's all frustrating if you own a Vita - the potential of the hardware is not being explored. FIFA 13 should be an essential purchase, a way to continue the same great game while on the move, but instead it's a cynical cash-in."
The game has also been torn to pieces on the game's Metacritic page, where more than 11 user reviews have FIFA 13 rated a 0-out-of-10. Many of the users' comments warn potential buyers not to purchase the soccer simulation. Some of the other criticism is that the game is exactly the same as the 2011 edition of the franchise.
The same types of reviews are showing up for the Wii version of the game, with many gamers calling the game a rehash with updated roster and skins. The Official Nintendo Magazine had this to say to EA, "You might think the Wii version is the least important member of the FIFA family, but we get the charts in every week and we know it still shifts a decent number of copies for you. You know very well that a fair amount of gamers still play the Wii version and that some of those will happily plonk down another £30 for the latest iteration, expecting at least something new to be in it."
