"Pokemon Go" has already taken the world by storm. Everyone has been out and about searching for rare Pokemon or conquering gyms near them. The game also involves a lot of technicalities regarding stats and items and among the most important of these is Stardust. Knowing how to use Stardust properly is vital to end up with the strongest set of Pokemon possible.
For starters, it is important to know that Stardust cannot be bought. A comprehensive report by Attack of the Fan Boy says that the most basic function of this item is to make your Pokemon stronger and that is why one would need a lot of it in the game. The most basic ways of getting Stardust would be to just keep on catching Pokemon and hang out in a gym where one will be rewarded with experience as well.
The thing about Stardust is, a lot of players get too trigger happy with using it. A lot would immediately blow as much Stardust as possible on their Pokemon with higher CP. This is the improper way of using Stardust, says another report in Attack of the Fanboy. Anyone who blows up too much Stardust way too early in the game will surely regret it later.
The wise way to use it would be to save all Stardust until one reaches at least level 20, unless one plans on hanging out in gyms and hitting them hard enough. This is because the Pokemon that appear quite strong early in the game will become pretty useless later on. Therefore, just keep catching and hitting gyms and gather as much stardust as possible and use them later on to get that powered up Gyarados, or even a stronger Pokemon.
Another thing to keep in mind would be the Pokemon's IVs. Once a Pokemon with high CP and IV is caught and if the player by then would be at a fairly high level, then that would be the best time to use Stardust to power up those Pokemon. One should also be mindful that each time the player levels up, the Pokemon's max CP raises by two.
This could only mean that even maxed out Pokemon would cause the player some Stardust if one invests in them too early in the game, only for the Pokemon to be transferred later on. This video explains this in detail.
