The tale of the Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad's desperate battle to save the remaining human inhabitants of the planet Sera from the subterranean Locust Horde is attempting to make it's way to the big screen again, according to recent report by Variety.
New Line Cinema with director Len Wiseman attached and a $100 million dollar budget had previously planned the film version. However, the project was slowed by development delays and Wiseman departed from the project. The last version of the script was written by Stuart Beattie who wrote the films "Collateral" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."
The plot of the movie went through several changes after it was announced in March, 2007. At one point the film was going to be a prequel to the game series and explain how lead protagonist Marcus Fenix got his scar.
The website reports that "Creative Artists Agency is eager to meet with producers in the coming weeks and set up the project elsewhere." CAA represents both Epic Games and Beattie.
According to the report, "Interest in "Gears" is picking up right as the game's lead designer Cliff Bleszinski unexpectedly announced last week that he is leaving North Carolina-based Epic Games after 20 years with the company."
The video game series has made over one billion dollars in sales and making it the first Xbox 360 exclusive to achieve that milestone. The last installment in the series, Gears of War 3, sold over 3 million copies in its first week on sale back in September 2011.
Gears of War: Judgment will be the fourth entry in the series and is being co-developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly. The game will be released on March 19, 2013 for the Xbox 360. Gears of War: Judgment's plot will pre-date that of the other releases in the franchise, and that will feature Damon Baird and Augustus Cole as protagonists.
