An analyst believes that a 13-inch Retina display MacBook Pro will go into production this quarter, according to a report on the website CNET.
Back in August NPD Display Search analyst Richard Shim told CNET, "The supply chain indications are that it's for a MacBook Pro 13.3 -- not a MacBook Air." According to the new report he has reiterated this statement to CNET.
Retina Display is a brand name used by Apple for the company's liquid crystal displays. According to Apple's website, "The new Retina display reduces glare while maintaining incredible color and quality. In fact, it has a 29 percent higher contrast ratio than a standard MacBook Pro display. Blacks are blacker. Whites are whiter. And everything in between is rich and vibrant."
The company has claimed that pixilation at a normal viewing distance cannot be detected by the human eye. The term is used for several Apple products, including the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and MacBook Pro.
The original Retina Display Mac book Pro was a 15.4 inches and started at $2,199. In the CNET report Shim says that recent supply-chain trends indicate that a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina-grade 2560 x 1600 display is already in the early stages of production.
Shim says that this new Retina MacBook is definitely not a MacBook Air and that it could be in production by the end of this quarter. Shim speculates that it will be released after the rumored iPad Mini is already announced.
Apple has yet to confirm that the iPad Mini even exist but alleged images continue to emerge and recent reports state the device will be announced and released in the coming weeks. Shim also said that he has no first-hand knowledge about the iPad mini.
It is very likely that the smaller Retina Display MacBook Pro will be priced less than the 15.4-inch model and Shim is expecting that the price point will be "well below the $2,199 entry point" of the larger version.
