Samsung's new Galaxy Camera will first be available on AT&T. The 16 megapixel uses a WiFi and 4G to 'Auto Cloud Back-up' the users photos into the instant that the photos are taken.
"Wirelessly enabling Samsung's Galaxy Camera will create a significant shift in how consumers share and communicate with photos and videos," said Chris Penrose, senior vice president, AT&T Emerging Devices. "By posting instantly to social networking sites or sending directly to another device, the person behind the lens is essentially offering family and friends the opportunity to share in the moments as they are actually experiencing them. We're excited that the AT&T wireless network will help enable these opportunities."
The Galaxy Camera features 21x optical zoom, and run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Galaxy Camera is not a phone, but has a microphone that can be used for Skype calls. The microphone can also be used to tell the camera what to do like zooming in or zooming out.
"Once again, Samsung has defined a new category of mobile devices and AT&T is leading the way to bring this device to consumers. The Galaxy Camera brings together Samsung's latest innovations in mobile and optical imaging technologies to provide the first connected camera running on the latest Android platform," said Dale Sohn, President of Samsung Telecommunications America. The GALAXY Camera has 65 editing features and has an HD Super Clear Touch Display, giving users access to features like Auto Face Calibration to edit precise details with ease.
The device is basically a tablet on one side and features full web-access and the Google Play app. Users can store photos straight to Dropbox, Instagram, Facebook or any other social network.
The Galaxy Camera will also be able to connect via a 4G connection, but it won't be through AT&T's LTE network. Instead the carrier will use its HSPA+ network, according to a press release by the company. AT&T hasn't revealed any data pricing plans for the device yet or even a release date for the new tablet/camera hybrid.
