"Avengers: Infinity War" is still in development. Although the initial plan was to showcase "Avengers: Infinity War" as a two-part story, it seems that the producers are planning to split it into two separate films.
Variety reported that Disney already confirmed that "Avengers: Infinity War" will be a single movie, and no longer a two-part project. The two films were retitled to clarify that the films will be two separate stories, instead of one huge film divided in half. The release dates have remained the same, with "Avengers: Infinity War" launching on May 4, 2018, and the second movie on May 3, 2019.
Marvel recently announced the new title, simply "Avengers: Infinity War," which suggests that the upcoming project will be a single film. There will be a second film, currently referred to as "Untitled Avengers," although the story will be entirely different from what will launch in 2018. Anthony and Joe Russo are slated to direct both films.
Co-writer Christopher Markus told Yahoo! Movies that "Avengers: Infinity War" and the second film were being written simultaneously. He said that on any given day, they are only working on one project, but it does not mean that later on, they will not be working on the other movie. Markus continued that they are constantly making adjustments and expect more changes to happen in the next few months. Markus will co-write "Avengers: Infinity War" with Stephen McFeely.
Russo told Den of Geek that they expect the process to become more intense in "Avengers: Infinity War." They will be shooting the two movies at the same time, working with numerous actors and a massive scale. Their narrative approach in the two movies will also be very unique to superhero films that they did in the past.
Russo continued that they plan to tell the stories from a multi-perspective, moving from one character to the next, and ultimately moving towards a unified plot. Markus said that they watch and cut scenes every 48 hours, so they constantly try to improve their ideas in "Avengers: Infinity War," which will result to a very difficult and long shoot overall.
