I checked the date, and it's not April 1st. So, I can't point to April Fools Day as the reason for the inclusion of teen sensation Justin Bieber to NBA 2K13. Frankly, with his hailing from the great white north (Canada to you and me), I figured him for more of a hockey buff than a basketball fan.
Bieber let his adoring fans know about his inclusion via a tweet in which he wrote:
"Shoutout to @Ronnie2K for putting #TeamBieber in #NBA2K13. Im running the pt. #SWAGGY"
Swaggy indeed.
Most 18 year olds who find themselves in the NBA at the tender age of 18 usually tower over Bieber at well over his 5'6 frame. Though, in-game, Bieber will come in at a hulking 6'4. But in all seriousness, why the addition? Good question. Maybe Bieb's pal Usher put in some words with 2K13's executive producer Jay-Z.
Bieber will be part of a special celebrity team, that also includes the uber tan Jersey Shoremen, DJ Pauly D and Vinny Guadagnino, as well as Bow Wow, and Sean Kingston.
While "Beliebers" are no doubt overjoyed at the Bieb's addition, non-fans should be happy to know that their eardrums at least will be saved, as the pop-star's tracks are not (at least not yet) included in the game's soundtrack.
Despite a few bugs, NBA 2K13's launch yesterday on XBox 360, PS3, PSP, Windows PC, and Nintendo Wii went off without a hitch. Make sure you check out Juan's review of NBA 2K13 here.
