The last time out, Game & Guide reported that “Game of Thrones” will be airing only seven episodes for its seventh season. With only about 15 episodes left, the remaining shows aren’t likely to be appended.
A report from BBC bares that “Game of Thrones” will stay the course and in fact end with its eighth season set for 2018. The record-breaking fantasy drama TV series is based on novels written by George RR Martin.
Justifying its Summer release
With only 15 shows left to produce, such is seen as the reason why the showrunners are taking their sweet time and not rushing the release of “Game of Thrones” season 7.
The series traditionally opens in the Spring but with a whittled down episode, HBO programming president Casey Bloys, the executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that starting at a later date would be better since the weather is changing, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
For season 7, “Game of Thrones” will be shooting over in North Ireland first. After that, the cast and crew will move to other places like Sevilla, Caceres, Almodovar del Rio, Santiponce, Zumaia and Berneo.
Spin-Off possible?
For Bloys, there is no definite number of episodes yet for the final season. While it could all point to an expected 8 shows, everything falls in the hands of the producers.
With the series soon coming to a close, ‘spin-offs’ are in the air. Bloys did not discount the possibility though there are no actual plans right now on the table.
Regardless, the remaining episodes of “Game of Thrones” in focus, fans will likely be saddened with word that there are no more shows to look forward to after 2018.
“Game of Thrones” has racked in a record of 12 Emmy Awards last year aside from picking up 23 nominations ahead of the coming annual ceremony set for September.
