The "Sons of Anarchy" prequel is currently in the works, titled "The First 9." The upcoming show is supposed to help creator Karl Sutter bounce back, after his previous project, "Bastard Executioner" received lukewarm reviews from fans and critics. Sutter and FX are reportedly also working on other "SOA"-related projects. Here are five things that fans can expect about "The First 9."
1. About the production
PEOPLE reported that Sutter revealed before that he was planning to begin work on "The First 9" in 2017. The creator said that he had some discussions with FX network about the prequel and the latter are allegedly open to his idea. He said how he wanted to feature some points of interest about the motorcycle club in "First 9."
2. The setting
"First 9" is said to focus on the origins of Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original or SAMCRO. Sutter shared that he wanted to do a period piece set in the 1960s, after the Vietnam War, which he believed was an interesting timeline.
3. The characters
According to ReleaseDate, there were rumors that Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) will return in "First 9," although the chances were few. Hunnam shared how he put everything in "Sons of Anarchy" and lived it as much as he could. Hunnam's character was killed off in the finale of "SOA" Season 7. The actor said that he truly grieved when it was time to bid his character farewell, and continued that he does not wish to play a part in "First 9."
4. More SOA projects
Den of Geek noted that at present, creator Sutter is working on three TV projects related to "SOA," namely "First 9, "Mayans MC," and "Redwood Original." "Mayans MC" is a spinoff series set in Oakland which delves on the former SOA enemy that eventually became the club's crime partner, starring Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera). "Redwood Original" is a prequel comic series, with Ollie Masters serving as writer and Luca Pizzari serving as artist. The project will feature a younger Jax Teller being introduced to the world of motorcycle clubs after his father died.
5. The launch dates
"Redwood Original" will be the first to release on Aug. 3, 2016. "Mayans MC" is set to release in January 2017, while "First 9" is expected to launch sometime in 2017. More updates and details on "The First 9" are expected soon.
