Many remakes can be very disappointing but Disney seems to have the solution to straight things up with their live-action remakes of their classic animated films. "Cinderella" and "The Jungle Book" are examples of those recent films that did very good and are both blockbuster hit.
The upcoming movie "Beauty and the Beast" will then follow the footsteps of Disney's 1991 animated classic where the lead role Belle fell inlove with her captor, a handsome rich prince who was cursed to live forever as a beast if he failed to find true love.
Emma Watson and Dan Stevens will play the lead role as Belle and the Beast. Luke Evans, from "Furious 7," will play as Gaston, Josh Gad of "Frozen" as LeFou. Others are Ewan McGregor as Lumiere and Ian McKellen as Cogsworth and Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts. Alan Menken is brought back to do recordings of the original songs for the film. Bill Condon, whose known for directing the hit Dreamgirls, will be directing the said movie.
Disney Praise Emma Watson
According to International Business Times, during Disney's CinemaCon slate presentation in Las Vegas, Dave Hollis, who is the executive vice president of theatrical distribution of Walt Disney Studios teased the film and describe it as "breathtaking" and "extraordinary." "The reactions that we've seen from the test screenings is nothing short of extraordinary," he said.
It won't be the studio's first for a live-action remake if this movie manages to be a box office success as last year's "Cinderella," which starred Lily James as the lead princess, took in over $542 million for Disney worldwide. The film "Alice and Wonderland" also did well for the said studio. The film grossed just over $1 billion worldwide in 2010.
The film is scheduled to premiere March 17, 2017.
