Minecraft Crosses 4 Million Mark on XBLA

Markus "Notch" Presson said that once Minecraft sales start dying, he would release the game's source code. But don't count on that happening anytime soon, courtesy of XBox Live. 4J Studios tweeted that the game has now been downloaded from XBLA over 4 million times. So if you haven't played the simple yet elegant Minecraft yet, you're officially in the minority.

Updates are on the way (likely soon) for the XBox version. Dubbed the "Adventure" update, it adds some long missing features to the game, including creative mode, villages, strongholds, abandoned mineshafts, ravines, new food types, and more. A release date has not yet been given, but don't be surprised if it releases around the same time as the Halloween Update for the PC version.

The Halloween update will be one of the biggest updates to Minecraft of the year. Other parts of the update include new food items (carrots and potatoes), corner stairs, dying of leather clothes, cobblestone walls, two new mobs (at least), and many, many more adjustments.

A release around this time of year is becoming typical for Mojang and Minecraft. In 2010, their last Halloween Update included the addition of the Nether, two new mobs (Ghasts and Zombie Pigmen), new block types, and more.

And if you still haven't played Minecraft, it's now that much easier to get the game too. If online shopping just isn't your thing, you can now get your copy of Minecraft by purchasing prepaid cards at Walmart, Target, and Best Buy.
