Ben Affleck said he was approached to reprise his role as blind-lawyer Matt Murdock for the superhero Daredevil in a franchise reboot, but that he turned down the role.
In an interview with MTV, Affleck said that the studio approached him to in a new version of Marvel's "Man Without Fear," but the actor felt the film would not be a true reboot if he reprised his role.
"They're rebooting it," he explained. "I got contacted about it, and I was like, 'That wouldn't be a reboot [if I was involved],' but I really hope they do a good job, because that's a great property and deserves something really, really good."
The alter ego of Daredevil is Matt Murdock, a lawyer who was blinded in his youth while growing up in the New York City neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen. While he has lost his vision, the radioactive exposure heightens his remaining senses beyond normal human ability.
His father is a journeyman boxer named Jack Murdock, who supports him as he grows up, though criminals later kill Jack after refusing to throw a fight. Matt soon dons a yellow and black, and later a dark red, costume and seeks out revenge against his father's killers as Daredevil.
While Ben Affleck may have turndown the role of Marvel's superhero, he is still considering downing hero attire in a future film.
"I would love to do [a comic book movie] if it was the right one, if I thought I could do it well," Affleck told MTV. "I think you have to, with any movie, have an idea for it that's original and unique and committed to it, and that's a hard thing to find."
The current status of the Daredevil film is unknown, as the film right will be returning to Marvel on Oct. 10, according to a repot by Variety. Marvel has already retained the rights to Blade and The Punisher.
Affleck also said he will not be directing the Justice League of America movie and that he finds the rumor flattering.
"I guess I should be flattered, and I'm sure it will be cool," Affleck said. "I've seen some of the stuff from the new Superman movie, and that stuff is awesome."
