Already available to gamers in Europe, American gamers will get their chance this week to try the new Silent Hill title coming to the PS Vita, Silent Hill: Book of Memories.
A spin off of sorts, Book of Memories will depart from the series by introducing a multiplayer aspect to the franchise. As one of the games that helped develop the survival horror genre of modern videogames alongside Resident Evil, Silent Hills of past were typically meant to be played alone. In the dark. With or without a diaper depending on your scare tolerance. But Book of Memories hopes to turn that on its ear. Well, not so much the diaper wearing, but whole playing alone thing.
For good or bad, Konami describes the gameplay as having a heavy focus on "co-operative multiplayer action rather than traditional Psychological Horror. Players can work together as they explore several different Otherworlds, solving puzzles and defeating enemies."
So just on that description alone, it unfortunately sounds nothing like Silent Hill. Throw in the isometric view, and I have no idea what they're going for. Keep in mind though, that while this is a Silent Hill title, it's being developed by WayForward, and not Konami.
The plot is bizarre, as per usual. Players begin the game in possession of a strange book that has the ability to alter their past. Past characters and weapons will appear, such as the infamous Pyramid Head and his big ass knife...sword...thing.

Exclusive to the PS Vita, Silent Hill: Book of Memories is out Oct. 16.
