The DOA series has a bit of a history as one of the more...well..."jiggly" franchises of videogaming, something for which it's received "ample" amounts of criticism as well as praise, allbeit a bit more hushed praise. The first game even had an option to turn bouncing breasts on or off.
It seems as though DOA's parent company Team Ninja is justifying their virtual admiration for the female form. In an interview with Gamasutra, Team Ninja's Yohei Shimbori is reporting that despite international distributors asking for the lady lumps to be a bit more toned down, Team Ninja's decision to include them is all part of a service to the fans.
"We were getting feedback from the overseas offices to tone down the sexuality -- to tone down the sexiness of the game, and of the characters," he revealed. "We actually got a lot of feedback from people who were playing it, saying, 'We want bigger breasts. Make the characters more like that.' That was kind of surprising."
Shimbori went on to say, "There's definitely still room for having sexualized aspects. If you have a solid fighting game system there, there's nothing wrong with having beautiful characters as a layer on top of that -- that's another layer of entertainment that there's a need for. If there wasn't a need for it, people wouldn't have responded to the alpha demo like they did, and send us feedback."
So much for doing away with the stereotype of gamers as lonely perverts. Ah well, to each his own. The latest DOA game, DOA 5, is out now for PS3 and Xbox 360. You can check out the game's launch trailer here.
