Electronic Arts' FIFA Soccer 13 has launched to unprecedented opening day sales in North America. In the game's first 24 hours on sale, 353,000 copies of FIFA 13 were sold for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America.
This was a m 42-percent increase compared to last year's edition FIFA 12. Soccer fans across North America played an astonishing 1.4 million online games on the first day after the game launched, which is up 35 percent year-over-year.
"We're thrilled that fans throughout North America have embraced FIFA Soccer 13 in such a big way," said EA Sports executive vice president Andrew Wilson. "North Americans appreciate a great-playing game and their level of engagement with our game is helping to drive the sport's popularity in the United States."
It was also the biggest global launch-day performance of any iOS game on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in the history of EA. The game publisher said that FIFA Soccer 13 sales were up 62-percent on iOS, becoming the number one top paid game in 55 countries on the App Store and the top-grossing game in 24 countries.
FIFA '13 has only launched in North America and will launch in the rest of the world on Sept. 28. EA already announced that more than 1 million games have been pre-ordered worldwide, while over 4.6 million gamers in 123 countries have played the demo for the PlayStation 3, Xbox and Windows PC. This was a 42 percent increase year-over-year in demo users worldwide.
