The Master Chief is defrosted and ready to shoot down some Covenant and Promethean forces, according to Franchise director Frank O'Connor.
O'Connor made the announcement at a Halo 4 press event at the London Film Museum in Covent Garden that was attended by game site VideoGamer. He says development on the upcoming sci-fi first-person shooter is finished and the game is now headed to Microsoft for certification.
"We had a big piece of news yesterday back in the office, which is that the game is literally finished at this point," he said. "They are handing it off through the various certification processes and that, and we're done. It's been three years of incredibly hard work by about 300 people."
Halo 4 was officially announced on June 4, 2011, at E3 2011 and intended to be the first of a new trilogy in the Halo franchise. The new trilogy has been named the "Reclaimer Trilogy." Bungie developed the original Halo Trilogy and also contributed the expansion Halo 3: ODST and a prequel Halo: Reach, their last project for the franchise. Halo 4 was developed by 343 Industries.
Halo 4 will see John-117 return as a playable protagonist for the first time since 2007's Halo 3. Master Chief was lost in space since the finale of Halo 3. In Halo 4, the Master Chief returns to battle an ancient evil bent on vengeance and annihilation. Shipwrecked on a mysterious world, faced with new enemies and deadly technology, according to game's official site.
Halo 4 may also mark the Master Chief's final adventure on the Xbox 360, as future installments are rumored to be planned for Microsoft's next Xbox videogame system. The game is set for a worldwide release on November 6, 2012.
