Thor Sequel, The Dark World, Expands Cast

As reported by Deadline, British actors Richard Brake and Clive Russell have joined the now-being-filmed Marvel sequel. Fans may recollect Brake as having the small but pivotal role of Joe Chill, the man responsible for the death of Bruce Wayne's parents in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins." Russell has recently had the pleasure of portraying Captain Tanner in "Sherlock Holmes" and its sequel, "A Game of Shadows."

Brake will play "a captain in the elite Einherjar, a warrior team that in the mythology fought alongside Thor on numerous occasions." As for Russell, he'll play as Thor's other, and older (half) brother, Tyr, former Asgardian God of War.

The cast also includes returning actors Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba, Rene Russo, and more. It's also rumored that Viggo Mortensen wil have a cameo role as Doctor Strange, a possible inclusion set up for "The Avengers" sequel.

Longtime Marvel menace Loki will be playing second fiddle to a new villain, Malekith, the ruler of the dark elves of Svartalfheim, one of the nine worlds of Yggdrasil. The dark elves possess superhuman strength, stamina, speed and smarts. Malekith can also teleport, fly by transforming into mist and cast illusions. He is served by minions Bitterhand, Wormwood and Grendell.

"Thor: The Dark World" opens November 8, 2013.
