Mirror's Edge Coming to PlayStation Network Next Week

Couch freerunners rejoice, as Sony announced via the Official PlayStation Blogcast  that DICE's Mirror's Edge will be available for download from the PlayStation Network early next week, September 25.

Set in a pristine, though dystopian future, the government monitors essentially all forms of electronic communication. Any means of free correspondence is done by "runners," couriers who deliver messages between groups. Players take on the role of Faith, a courier tasked with delivering messages while navigating the urban environment and evading the government whenever possible, primarily through parkour.

While parkour / free running wasn't an entirely new concept to gaming at the time of Mirror Edge's release (Assassin's Creed, InFamous, etc.), Mirrors Edge was the first to do it from a first person perspective. Movement through and over obstacles also relied heavily on momentum, not unlike actual freerunners. Stumble enroute, or make the wrong movement at the wrong time, and Faith is done for.

The perspective was at little difficult to get used to at first, but overall, the game received mostly high marks upon its release, and sold over two million copies worldwide.

A sequel is planned, though no further developments have, as of yet, been announced. In the meantime, if you never got around to trying Mirror's Edge, you'll get your chance next week, September 25.
