If you haven't played Slender: The Eight Pages at this point, then maybe you've at least seen some of the reactions of people who have. In the off chance you're unaware of it, scary and simple, Slender quickly became a hit. So it's no wonder why a sequel is already in development.
Slender's designer Mark Hadley has announced that he's teamed with Blue Isle Studios to make a follow-up called Slender: The Arrival. A teaser website for the game shares a couple of screenshots while promising that the next installment will be "even more terrifying" than the original, with "more levels, improved visuals, and an engaging storyline."
Only problem? According to the site, The Arrival is to be a commercial release. Translation, not free. But if it's as engaging as the first game, people will gladly fork over the money. We pay to be scared. We're weird like that.
Anywho, if you never heard of Slender, it's based on the mythos of Slenderman, a quintessential example of the modern day urban legend. Whereas once upon a time, tales of the escaped mental patient with a hook for a hand were once shared around a campfire, similarly structured are now spread through the internet. Initially beginning as a thread dedicated to creating scary images through photo manipulation at Something Awful's forum in 2009. Then it spread like cancer, to various other sites and publications including Fangoria, Bungie, Kongregate, DeviantArt, Mythical Creatures Guide, and 4chan.
While he's been the subject of multiple fan fics, and psuedo-documnetarys, Slender is the lanky man's first shot in the videogame medium. In the off chance that you've yet to play the role of the hunted against the faceless foe, you can download it here for Mac, and here for PC. Just make sure you visit the bathroom before playing. No one will fault you if you play with the lights on.
