Netflix is getting ready to launch its new "Luke Cage" drama series. More details about the Marvel character were revealed at San Diego Comic Con 2016.
The"Luke Cage" panel was at San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2016 at Ballroom 20, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. It will be the first time that the Marvel Cinematic Universe set up their own panel at the huge event.
Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter, made his first ever appearance, as well as some things to expect in the upcoming premiere season of the show.
The panel was moderated by executive producer and Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb. An official trailer was also shown during the event.
UPI stated that Luke Cage first appeared in the "Jessica Jones" series on Netflix. He was a bartender at a posh Hell's Kitchen location.
Subsequently, Luke Cage's bar was destroyed, compelling him to leave and return to Harlem. A new promotional shot was shown, hinting that Luke Cage will be bartending in a new place.
Fansided reported that the "Luke Cage" panel members at SDCC included Mike Colter, Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodward, Theo Rossi, Simone Missick, Frank Whaley and executive producer CheoHodari Coker. However, Krysten Ritter, who played Jessica Jones, was not with the group.
Luke Cage is a strong and powerful character, gifted with unbreakable skin that makes him almost completely immune to physical attacks. In the first season of "Luke Cage," he will return home to Harlem and begin fighting crime to protect others.
Mahershala Ali will play Cornel "Cottonmouth" Stokes, a night club owner engaged in illegal activities that Cage intends to put an end to.
Alfre Woodward plays Mariah Dillard, a local politician and cousin of Stokes who aims to improve Harlem. She is not too keen on how Cage is solving crime, however.
Theo Rossi will play Shades, a Harlem criminal who has connections to Cage's background. Simone Missick will take on the role of Misty Knight, a police detective who aids Cage.
Frank Whaley will play Rafael Scarfe, Misty's police partner. Erik LaRay Harvey and Rosario Dawson will also be part of the cast.
Luke Cage and Jessica Jones had a romantic relationship in the last Netflix series. It is still unknown whether she will be part of "Luke Cage" Season 1, although it is likely that she will have a cameo appearance at least.
Ritter is scheduled to appear again in the upcoming series, "The Defenders," together with Mike Colter as "Luke Cage," "Daredevil" and "Iron Fist."
"Luke Cage" will premiere on Sept. 30, 2016 on Netflix.
