Jeremy Lin is officially back in New York and the Brooklyn Net fans are pinning a lot on the former Harvard University standout. Many are hoping to see the rebirth of “Linsanity” even if the 27-year-old guard prefers to be a normal cager.
The fact is that seeing such is easier said than done. He returns to the place where his breakthrough happened though all that came with the New York Knicks. NBA life has been tough on Jeremy Lin since then following forgettable stints with the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Another chance to be a starter
Lin’s best opportunity with the Nets starts by proving he can be a certified starter. He failed with the Rockets and the Lakers but showed he could contribute off the bench with the Charlotte Hornets last year.
Aside from proving his worth, Jeremy Lin needs to rise as a leader for Kenny Atkinson’s crew. The indirect call comes with the package as he tries to hum with the likes of Brook Lopez and new acquisitions Luis Scola and Anthony Bennett, USA Today reported.
Role model is more like it
In an interview with ESPN, Jeremy Lin bares that he doesn’t mind being a role model but doesn’t consider himself as a phenomenon. All this is apparently tied up with the whole “Linsanity” hype which he leaves up to the fans.
"I will be myself but I don't really draw too many comparisons to Linsanity the phenomenon. I am just going to keep playing. People will always kind of compare me to that. In a lot of ways, not in a negative way or a way that I am offended but it kind of dehumanizes me to refer to me as a phenomenon,” Lin said.
A lot of responsibility falls on the broad shoulders of Lin and many are hoping he can continue the redemption he showed last season with the Hornets. His addition may not catapult the Nets towards the NBA title but may somehow tilted the roadmap in the proper direction.
