Throughout the Star Wars franchise, more varieties of the Empire's Stormtroopers have been shown, such as the Snowtroopers on Hoth and the Scout Troopers on Endor. In the upcoming "Star Wars: Rogue One" movie, fans will be introduced to the new Death Troopers.
Death Troopers in the Star Wars: Rogue One film may be the most intimidating type of Stormtroopers in the saga.
The special soldiers in the "Star Wars: Rogue One" film have glossy all-black armor and meaner-looking helmets. They give the impression of a high-tech SWAT team or special ops agents who leave bodies at their wake.
"Star Wars: Rogue One" director Gareth Edwards shared some details about the Death Troopers during an interview at Star Wars Celebration. The black soldiers in the Star Wars: Rogue One movie were actually inspired by concept art made decades earlier, before the franchise became a huge hit.
The "Star Wars: Rogue One" director shared that they had several drawers full of original work by Joe Johnston and Ralph McQuarrie. Many of the paintings suggested how the Stormtroopers were supposed to look in the original films.
Edwards explained that there were concept art that presented very tall and athletic Stormtroopers. They thought it would be good to introduce six or seven-foot tall and thin soldiers who can actually hit their targets, compared to their white counterparts.
These meaner black versions would eventually become the Death Troopers in the new Star Wars: Rogue One film.
Cinema Blend wrote that the Death Troopers were officially shown in the first "Star Wars: Rogue One" trailer in April 2016.
They will serve as specialized Imperial soldiers in the "Star Wars: Rogue One" film, but there will be more unique troops in action, such as the Shoretroopers, who are the Marine corps of the Empire, focusing on water and beach warfare.
Military Director Orson Krennic will be in charge of the several groups to try and stop the Rebels from acquiring the plans to the first Death Star. With special attention paid to their accuracy and size, the Death Troopers are expected to be a threat, aside from the main enemy villains in "Star Wars: Rogue One."
The Death Troopers of the "Star Wars: Rogue One" movie are expected to be among the main focuses of future merchandises. They are also expected to resurface in other prequel titles.
