Amir Khan has been known to be oozing with confidence in the ring though he may be hinting at crossing to another sport – mixed martial arts. The Briton believes he can successfully transition to the UFC, citing his age and the fact that he is a ‘fighter’.
Khan is no stranger as far as boasting his stock. He did it leading up to his fight with Canelo Alvarez and everyone knows how the southpaw received a devastating KO from the Mexican Brawler. Now he tries to venture into sensitive territory where hesitation is up in the air. Word of Khan’s UFC plan came from Flocombat.com.
Following Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s lead?
It wasn’t long ago when another boxer tried to stir up some hype by jawing with “The Notorious”. That was no other than Floyd Mayweather Jr., undefeated and now retired. One thing they had in common is that they loved to boast. Could Khan be in the ranks?
Right now Khan is unlikely to get a boost of support from the boxing circuit if ever he does have plans. There is no doubt that Khan has been looking to move up in the ranks and this is perhaps his latest move.
But is Khan in the same niche as Mayweather? Many will likely say no. Unlike the “Flamboyant One”, Khan has yet to be considered among the elite fighters in the boxing ring. He may beg to differ but the fact is that Khan is not ‘exactly’ up there yet.
Dana White unlikely to consider
UFC president Dana White hardly considered Mayweather to make the UFC jump, knowing it was nothing more than a publicity stunt. Khan may be a fighter one level down Mayweather so White is unlikely to bite.
His reason for Khan is likely to be the same one he voiced out on Mayweather via ESPN.
“Let me put it to you this way. Manny Pacquiao and [Mayweather] are in the same sport. It took how long for those two to fight? Now imagine how hard it would be to get (Mayweather and McGregor) to fight. They're not in the same sport.”
