Warner Bros. Announces Midway Arcade Origins, a Collection of Classic Midway Arcade Titles

Warner Bros. Interactive announced today Midway Arcade Origins, an upcoming title that compiles over 30 of Midway's classic genre-defining games from the golden age of arcades. If the phrase "Warner Bros. releasing Midway" seems a bit off, it's because Warner scooped up most of Midway's assets after they filed for bankruptcy in 2009.

While they haven't announced all 30 titles exactly, we do know that Midway Arcade Origins will include titles like: Gauntlet, Rampage, Joust, Spy Hunter, Defender and Marble Madness.

It will also feature leaderboard support and achievements. You'll also be able to enjoy any of the co-op titles with up to three friends in local co-op multiplayer, posting your high scores online, provided you have enough controllers.

Wait a minute..."Local co-op multiplayer." No online co-op? Capcom and Konami let us duke it out online with coin-op arcade classics Final Fight and X-Men, but Warner Bros. can't figure it out? I declare shenanigans!

I'll step down from my soapbox now. Under development by Backbone Entertainment, Midway Arcade Origins will be available by Christmas. Check out the trailer below.

Midway Arcade Origins will be good for the nostalgia factor, but not much else. And wouldn't it make more sense to make this a download title only? 30 old school games couldn't take up that much space. Oh well, at $29.99, that ultimately makes for a buck a game, which isn't too bad I suppose. Midway Arcade Origins will be available this November on the PS3 and XBox 360.
